Thesis & Internship Defenses

Taylor Miller, Thesis: "Improving Wood Traceability and Certificiate Verifications in the Lowe's Supply Chain Using Blockchain Technology". View her thesis defense HERE. Student News

EVSS student Ruth Eklund had a review paper published in December in GeoHealth, an open access journal sponsored by the American Geophysical Union. Read the article here.

EVSS student Sam Norton was recently featured in the Charleston City Paper for his work with Salicornia europaea. His company, Heron Farms, is currently selling the plant to restaurants in Charleston. Check out the article here.

Dr. Matt Rutter, EVSS faculty member and the Academic Director of Stono Preserve, was recently featured in The College Today. Read the article here.

Alumni News

Caitlyn Mayer, geology adjunct faculty and alum, was featured in Charleston City Paper about local oyster farms. She and Peter Bierce co-own Charleston Oytser Farm where they utilize a floating cage method for their oyster farming.

Kenda Conley (who graduated from the EVSS/MPA program in 2017) recently published her thesis "Wastewater treatment plants as a source of microplastics to an urban estuary: Removal efficiencies and loading per capita over one year". The Post and Courier recently published an article highlighting her work. Check out the scientific paper and the Post and Courier article.

Check out this recent article in the Post and Courier featuring M.S. in Environmental Studies alumna Brooke Czwartack as she talks about about the SC Department of Natural Resources groundwater monitoring program. The article also features the Stono Preserve, the site of the Sustainable Agriculture Program's Student Garden.
